Greenville HS Director of BandsMatt Ownby has been a music educator for the past 26 years: 3 years as adjunct professor at UNLV, 21 years teaching K-12 music in the Novi Community School District in Michigan (including 3 years as elementary principal), and one year as the GISD Percussion Director. He was director of three-time WGI World Finalist Novi Percussion, as well as an instructor with WGI regular World Finalists Motor City Percussion and Huron Valley Percussion.
Matt has degrees from Western Michigan University, UNLV, and the University of Michigan. He performed as a member of The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps from 1991-1993 and won the DCI Individual Ensemble competition in 1993. During the 2016 and 2017 seasons he also served as Director of Operations for The Cavaliers. Matt has judged marching band and drumline events around the country, arranges music for marching ensembles across the United States and Europe, and was the music adjudication caption head for the State of Michigan marching band circuit for 10 years. He has also performed with Elton John, Faith Hill, Wynona Judd, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Mary Wilson, Martha Reeves, among others. Matt has 2 grown children Jacob (24) and Isabelle (22), a stepson Blake (22) and lives in Royse City with his wife Trudy and dog Mia. |
Greenville HS Assistant DirectorLuke Dailey is the assistant band director at Greenville High School. Mr. Dailey graduated from Texas A&M University-Commerce with a degree in Music Education. He enjoys both music performance and education and is currently a cornet player in the "Dallas Brass Band", a British style brass ensemble based in the Dallas area. Prior to teaching in Greenville, Mr. Dailey taught private lessons for several years and was a band director at Agnew Middle School in Mesquite, Texas.

Greenville MS Head DirectorKelsey Mattice is the Head Band Director at Greenville Middle School and is currently in her 6th year of teaching. Her teaching so far has included 3 different positions at Greenville: 6th Grade Band Director (3 years), Assistant GMS Director (1 year), and Head GMS Director (2 years)!
She currently plays flute for multiple organizations-traveling as needed-and plays weekly for Athen's First Baptist Church. Ms. Mattice biannually plays with the North East Texas Choral Society in Sulphur Springs, and has played flute and saxophone in the orchestra for Greenville Family Theater (playing in shows such as the productions "Newsies" and "Mary Poppins"). Prior to teaching in Greenville, Ms. Mattice studied Music Education at Texas A&M University-Commerce. While there, she participated in the flute choir, Wind Ensemble, Steel Pan Ensemble, and “The Pride” Marching band on flute, piccolo, and Color Guard. Ms. Mattice lives in Rockwall with her boyfriend Mr. Smith and 4 cats Roxie, Lily, Tobi, and Sammy! |
Greenville MS Assistant DirectorTrent McGee is the Assistant Director at Greenville Middle School. Mr. McGee graduated from Lamar University in Beaumont, TX with a degree in Music Education. During his time at Lamar, Mr. McGee was the bass drum section leader for the Showcase of Southeast Texas Marching Band, a performing member of the Lamar Percussion Studio, and served as a Lamar University Ambassador while enrolled in the Reaud Honors College. He has experience marching in the WGI World-Class circuit with Monarch Independent Percussion based out of Houston, TX and has carried his gained knowledge serving as percussion tech for many state-qualifying ensembles. Mr. McGee comes to us from Kountze ISD where he served as Percussion Director and Head Middle School Band Director. His students have earned many awards and accolades during his time at Kountze ISD, and he has taught private lessons for percussion students in the surrounding area as well. He has also been an active member of his community as an inaugural member of the Southeast Texas Winds and Percussion community ensemble.

Greenville HS Color Guard DirectorAJ Pondt is the colorguard director at Greenville High School. Mr.Pondt originally started spinning with Lone Star High School’s winterguard. He is currently studying to be an education major at Texas A&M University-Commerce, and is a member of the Pride Marching Band. He also serves as a color guard technician and choreographer for the Denison High School guard program. Mr.Pondt is also auditioning for WGI and DCI groups in the future. Mr.Pondt lives in Frisco with his two Marvel themed dogs Yondu and Shuri.
